Consultancy, mentoring, advice
I’ve worked with numerous environmental and sustainability specialists, and people whose work involves engaging stakeholders in bringing about change: helping them make sense of the context in which they’re working, clarify the changes they are trying to bring about, reflect on the progress they’ve made, and find the next steps.
Mentoring collaborators
To deliver its mission, England’s Environment Agency has to collaborate with other public bodies, private businesses, NGOs and communities. As part of a multi-stranded capacity-building programme with 3KQ, I co-designed and co-delivered two cohorts of intensive learning, including online workshops and a series of videos on key aspects of building collaborative working relationships. This programme also included one-to-one and team mentoring, where the people working on different collaborations could get expert advice and consultancy.
Consultancy on public dialogue
A network of UK-based international development NGOs was finding common ground on the UK's role in international development, including hosting a series of public dialogue events. Penny provided workshop design consultancy to the team.
Consultancy on stakeholder engagement for a major project
A professional body was revising its competency standards. There was a complex system of formal committees, advisory bodies, existing suppliers, peer organisations and the wider membership to involve in different ways. I helped the team map the stakeholders, plan out who to engage in different ways, and designed and facilitated some of the many workshops the team ran.
Internal engagement consultancy
Sustainability specialists working to improve their organisation’s environmental or social impact can get stuck. Perhaps their colleagues don’t understand. Maybe measurement and incentive systems work against their sustainability goals. Perhaps they need to be engaging with the strategic leadership team. I have worked with in-house sustainability leads for global brands and B2B companies, asking the right questions and advising on how to be more effective in engaging colleagues and external stakeholders.
